June is an insane month for movies & TV shows

It’s been a while since we had such a packed month in film and television.

Grab your popcorn and prepare yourselves for some of the most anticipated releases this June (to me, anyways).

BIG RELEASES

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse

A sequel to 2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, this is shaping up to be another animated masterpiece. Not only does this movie boast colourful comic book-like visuals, but seems to bring the emotional stakes from the first film to another level. If Across the Spider-Verse lives up to its hype, we can expect a movie that balances fun and a meaningful story. Oh, and I can’t wait to find all the Spidey Easter eggs in this one. 🕸

Premiered: June 1 (Singapore) in theatres.

The Boogeyman

I’m not a fan of horror movies myself, but I know some of you will be thrilled by this. One thing I‘m confident of though, is that little Princess Leia (from the Obi-Wan Kenobi series) is gonna deliver a convincing performance. Good luck to all of you who are watching this at night. 😂

Premiered: June 1 (Singapore) in theatres.

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts

Did I just hear Michelle Yeoh’s voice as a Transformer? 🤯 Just last weekend, this film had its world premiere in Singapore. In a week’s time, it’ll be released in theatres everywhere. Though I haven’t been following the Transformers series for years, I genuinely enjoyed Bumblebee (2018). So I might actually see this one. The “classic” look of the Transformers is pretty cool too.

Premiering: June 8 (Singapore) in theatres.

The Flash

With the controversies surrounding its lead actor Ezra Miller, it might be difficult for some to root for this one. But man, you just can’t deny that it’ll be epic to see Michael Keaton, Ben Affleck and Michael Shannon in their iconic roles again. Let’s hope this film will set the DC Universe (now under DC Studios led by James Gunn) in the best direction moving forward. ⚡️

Premiering: June 14 (Singapore) in theatres.

Elemental

Pixar returns with their latest animated feature – Elemental. This feels like it’ll fit their usual “formula” of telling stories with a lot of heart. At the same time, it looks beautifully animated to be a treat to our eyes. What a way to mark The Walt Disney Company’s 100th anniversary. 🔥💧

Premiering: June 15 (Singapore) in theatres.

Extraction 2

The sequel to arguably one of the best action movies in recent years, Extraction 2 seems to promise even more intense and thrilling sequences, paired with great direction and camera work. If you enjoy films like the John Wick series and love the Russo brothers’ previous works (including MCU projects like Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Avengers: Endgame), this is a must-watch for you.

Premiering: June 16 on Netflix.

Secret Invasion

If you follow the Marvel Cinematic Universe closely like I do, this is probably on your radar too. Nick Fury is back and he doesn’t know who to trust. The fun part is – neither do we. I’m just excited to watch a spy thriller set in the MCU again. See y’all on premiere day.

Premiering: June 21 on Disney+.

Asteroid City

Two words — Wes Anderson. Enough said.

Premiering: June 23 (USA) in theatres.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny

It’s Indiana Jones starring Harrison Ford, who is turning 81! What else can I say? Sometimes, you just need a good ole action adventure film. Besides, this is going to be the last film in the franchise, releasing 15 years after the previous one, and 42 years after the first. It’s gonna be one memorable ride.

Premiering: June 29 (Singapore) in theatres.

OTHER NOTABLE MENTIONS

Want more recommendations? I compiled other releases worth checking out here.

There you have it. Those are the movies and TV shows I am most excited for this June.

Did I miss anything? Should I do this again for July? Let me know. 😎

Now go plan a trip to the cinema with some friends or host a watch party! 🍿
